Play Targhan Online

You play as a barbarian wrecking villages with slow, weighty axe swings—turns out you're the villain assassinating a king who's weirdly wholesome. The combat's janky but satisfying, and the enemies look like they escaped from a metal album cover.

Game Overview

Targhan came out in 1989 from Silmarils, one of those MS-DOS games that felt ambitious for its time. It was a side-scrolling action adventure with a dark fantasy look, the kind of thing you'd load up after school if you had a taste for something a little grim and unconventional.

You control a barbarian warrior moving screen by screen through hostile lands, fighting monsters with an axe or a bow. The goal is to assassinate a king, though the story frames you as the villain in a world that's surprisingly peaceful without you. Combat is slow and deliberate; every swing has weight, and timing matters more than speed. You explore villages, caves, and castles, collecting items and navigating environmental hazards. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush. Playing it feels like stepping into a strange, somber dream where every action has consequence.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
