Telengard came out in 1982 for MS-DOS, published by Avalon Hill. It was one of those early dungeon crawlers that ran on machines with limited graphics, where the focus was on the mechanics and the challenge rather than visual spectacle. You knew what you were getting into; it was a game for people who liked to think and plan, not just react.
You control a single adventurer, descending deeper into a massive, multi-level dungeon. Your main goal is simply to survive, gather gold and experience, and see how far down you can get before something kills you. The game plays out screen by screen, with each new room or corridor presenting a potential threat or reward. Combat is straightforward, resolved automatically when you encounter monsters, leaving you to manage your health, spells, and escape routes. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, because death is permanent and the dungeon is unforgiving. It feels like a careful, methodical gamble every time you take a step.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
