I first played the Temple of Apshai Trilogy back in the MS-DOS days, around 1985. It was published by Epyx, and it was one of those early dungeon crawlers that really set the tone for the genre on PC. You control a single adventurer, customizing their stats and gear before descending into a multi-level dungeon filled with monsters, traps, and treasure. The goal is straightforward: survive, gather loot, and uncover the secrets of the temple. You move screen by screen, engaging in real-time combat with swords or bows, managing your health and stamina carefully. The game is methodical, even slow by today's standards, and it can be brutally difficult if you rush in unprepared. What stands out is the descriptive text that pops up for each room, adding flavor and context to the exploration. Playing it feels like poring over an old, hand-drawn map; every decision matters, and every victory feels earned.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
