Play Tenchi wo Kurau (Japan) Online
Battle through historical armies as one of four generals, using punches, kicks, and special attacks while picking up weapons and riding horses in this NES beat 'em up.
Tenchi wo Kurau came out on the NES in 1989, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that era where side-scrolling beat 'em ups were everywhere, but this one stood out because it was based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. You weren't just fighting random thugs; you were taking on entire armies from Chinese history.
You control one of four generals, like Guan Yu or Zhang Fei, and your goal is to fight through stages based on famous battles. The main things you do are punch, kick, and use special attacks that drain your health but clear the screen. You can also pick up weapons like swords or spears that enemies drop, and you ride horses in some sections which changes your movement and attacks. The game is fast and difficult, with enemies swarming you from all sides, and it requires quick reflexes to manage crowds and your limited health. It feels chaotic and demanding, but landing a powerful blow on a whole group of soldiers is incredibly satisfying.
