Play Tenchu Dark Secret (E)(Independent) Online
Sneak around as a ninja, avoid guards, and use the touchscreen to take out enemies quietly in Tenchu Dark Secret on Nintendo DS.
Tenchu Dark Secret came out on the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by From Software. It was part of that wave of early DS titles trying to figure out how to use the touchscreen for more than just menus, landing in an era full of experimental and sometimes awkward control schemes. This one took the established Tenchu stealth action formula and tried to shrink it down for the dual screens.
You control a ninja, either Rikimaru or Ayame, working through a series of missions to uncover a conspiracy. The core loop involves navigating enclosed, screen by screen environments, sticking to shadows, and avoiding the sightlines of patrolling guards. The touchscreen is used for selecting tools like shuriken or caltrops, and most notably for performing stealth kills by swiping the stylus across an enemy. Combat is a last resort; it's clunky and you'll quickly be overwhelmed if spotted. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, demanding patience as you watch patrol patterns and time your movements. It feels like a tense, methodical puzzle where a single mistake can ruin everything.
