Tenchu Dark Secret came out on the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by From Software. It was part of that wave of early DS titles trying to figure out how to use both screens and the stylus, and it landed right in the middle of the system's experimental phase.
You control either Rikimaru or Ayame, two ninja assassins working to uncover a conspiracy. The main goal is to complete missions by sneaking through enemy compounds, avoiding detection, and eliminating key targets. Signature mechanics include using the touch screen to set traps like caltrops or mines, and the top screen flips to a first-person view for aiming shurikens or your bow. The pacing is deliberate, focused on observation and timing rather than direct combat, and the difficulty can be punishing if you're spotted. It feels tense and methodical, rewarding patience with those satisfying, silent takedowns.
