Play TerraFire Online

Pilot a chunky little ship through asteroid fields that actually feel heavy—thrusting around has weight, and blowing up rocks never gets old. Those late-game levels? Pure chaos with that weirdly slick 3D look for '97.

Game Overview

Man, TerraFire was ahead of its time for an MS-DOS game. You’re piloting this little ship through 27 levels of asteroid-dodging chaos, and the physics feel just like the old arcade classic—except everything’s got this weirdly slick pre-rendered 3D look. Like, your ship actually has weight when you thrust around, and the explosions? Way more satisfying than they had any right to be in 1997.

Every fourth level throws you into this bonus round that’s basically a love letter to Asteroids, just pure, frantic blasting. The shareware version back in the day only gave you the first eight levels, which was brutal because the later ones get properly wild. Good thing they finally released the whole thing for free—some of those late-game stages are worth the wait.

Honestly, it’s impressive how much they squeezed out of DOS with the animations and detail. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand; this one’s all about reflexes and figuring out how to not get cornered by space rocks.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
