Test Drive Le Mans came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Velez & Dubail and published by Infogrames. It was one of the few racing titles on the handheld that tried to capture the scale of endurance racing, a pretty ambitious goal for the hardware at the time.
You control a Le Mans prototype, like the Toyota GT-One or BMW V12 LMR, racing against AI opponents on a condensed version of the Circuit de la Sarthe. The main objective is to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is shortened into a multi-lap race with day-to-night transitions. Signature mechanics include managing tire wear and fuel consumption, forcing you to pit strategically, and nailing the timing of your gear shifts to maintain momentum on the long Mulsanne straight. The AI is competitive and mistakes are costly, so the pacing stays tense. It feels surprisingly involved for a Game Boy racer, demanding focus more than just speed.
