Test Drive Unlimited on the PlayStation Portable, released in 2007 by Eden Games and Atari, was a bold attempt to bring an open world racing experience to a handheld. It arrived during a time when the PSP was full of ambitious ports, and this one tried to capture the feeling of its bigger console siblings. You start with a modest car and a simple goal: build a reputation and a garage full of luxury vehicles.

You control an aspiring driver who buys, sells, and races cars across a scaled down version of Oahu. The main objective is to earn money and complete events to climb the ranks. Signature mechanics include free roaming the island to discover new dealerships and challenges, engaging in point to point races and time trials, and using an in game GPS that constantly suggests nearby activities. The pacing is largely self directed, letting you choose between focused racing or leisurely exploration, though the driving physics can feel unforgiving. It feels like having a miniature, slightly janky vacation where your only job is to drive fast cars.
