Game Overview
Test Drive Unlimited on PSP drops you right into the sunny chaos of O'ahu with a suitcase full of cash and zero responsibilities. You pick your avatar at the airport—doesn’t matter who, they all drive the same—then immediately get thrown into the deep end of buying a car and a house with your starter $200k. Spoiler: that money disappears fast.
The whole island’s open from the start, which is equal parts liberating and overwhelming. You’ll spend the first 10 minutes either gawking at dealerships (Audi TT? Jaguar XJ200? Yes please) or accidentally stumbling into checkpoint races while trying to figure out the GPS lady’s directions. The cars handle differently enough that you’ll develop favorites—I kept wiping out with the faster ones until I learned to brake properly.
Online mode’s where it really shines, though. Seeing other players cruise past or setting up custom races with weird rules gives it that "living world" feel, even if the PSP version’s missing some features like bikes and manual transmission. Just don’t expect the graphics to blow you away—this is very much a portable, stripped-down version of the bigger console experience.
It’s basically a sandbox for car enthusiasts who like pretending they’re rich between coffee breaks.
