TFX (short for Tactical Fighter eXperiment) is one of those old-school MS-DOS flight sims that somehow nails the balance between "I can actually fly this thing" and "wait, why is my plane stalling again?" You start off in training missions—because let’s be real, you’re not ready to dogfight in an F-22 right away—but once you get the hang of it, the game opens up with proper combat missions, recon ops, and even some sneaky stealth runs in the F-117A.
The planes handle differently enough that switching from a Eurofighter to something heavier actually feels like a big deal. And yeah, the mission editor is where things get wild—you can tweak everything from enemy placements to weather, which means you’ll probably spend as much time designing ridiculous scenarios as you do flying them. It’s got that classic '90s sim vibe where the graphics won’t blow you away now, but the gameplay still holds up if you’re into cockpit realism without needing a PhD in aerodynamics.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
