Game Overview

The Black Orb was released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Softdisk Publishing. It belongs to that early 90s era of dungeon crawlers, where games relied on grid movement and first-person perspective to build tension rather than high-end graphics.

You control a lone adventurer navigating a dark, multi-level dungeon, hunting for the titular Black Orb. Movement is screen by screen, turn-based; each step forward could reveal a monster or a trap. Combat is menu-driven, requiring you to choose between attack, spell, or item, with magic carrying a real risk of backfiring if you miscast. The pacing is deliberate, almost cautious, because resources like torches and health are scarce and enemies hit hard. It feels like a tense, methodical puzzle where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
