Play The Blues Brothers Online
Team up as Jake or Elwood, run and jump through Chicago, punch enemies, and drive the Bluesmobile to find your band in this chaotic side-scrolling adventure.
I picked up The Blues Brothers on the Super Nintendo back in 1993, a game developed by Titus Software. It was one of those licensed titles that came out during the SNES era, trying to capture the spirit of the film with pixelated sprites and a bluesy soundtrack. It didn't have the polish of the big Nintendo first-party games, but it had its own rough charm, a straightforward action game that knew what it was.
You control either Jake or Elwood Blues, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling levels set in Chicago. Your main goal is to find and reassemble the band by reaching the end of each stage, which involves a lot of running, jumping over gaps, and punching out an endless stream of cops and other enemies. The signature mechanics are the Bluesmobile driving sections, where you plow through traffic and smash police cars, and the on-foot brawling that makes up the bulk of the gameplay. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with some awkward platforming and cheap hits. It feels like a messy, energetic scramble from start to finish, a game that's more about persistent momentum than finesse.
