Play The Dig Online
Explore an alien world, solve puzzles, and uncover mysteries as you guide Commander Boston Low in The Dig.
I first played The Dig back in 1995, when it came out for MS-DOS as part of LucasArts' lineup of classic games. It was a point-and-click adventure, but it stood apart from their usual comedies; the tone was serious, almost somber, and it leaned into hard sci-fi rather than humor. You control a small team of astronauts sent to deflect an asteroid, only to discover it's actually an alien spacecraft that transports you to a desolate, ancient world.
You guide Commander Boston Low through screen-by-screen exploration, solving environmental puzzles and deciphering alien technology using a set of crystal tools. The main objective is to understand what happened to the civilization that built this place and find a way back home. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with an emphasis on observation and careful interaction over quick action. It feels lonely and immersive, like you're uncovering secrets meant to stay buried.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
