Play The Fourth Protocol Online
Explore locations, make decisions, and stop a Soviet plot as a British agent in this 1985 text and graphic adventure.
The Fourth Protocol came out in 1985 for MS-DOS, published by Hutchinson Computer Publishing. It was one of those early text and graphic hybrids that tried to bring a little more atmosphere to the adventure genre, back when command prompts and simple visuals did a lot of heavy lifting.
You play as a British agent trying to stop a Soviet plot, moving through locations in England and Eastern Europe. The game mixes menu-driven exploration with tense decision making; you might choose to bribe a guard, sneak through woods at night, or plant listening devices, with each choice carrying the risk of sudden failure. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and mistakes are punished quickly. It feels like walking a very thin, very quiet wire.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
