I first played The Greens 1.5 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a simple puzzle game from an era when gameplay often trumped polish. It was developed by a small team whose name escapes me now, but it fit right in with the straightforward, sometimes unforgiving, titles of the early '90s. You don't get a grand story or elaborate cutscenes; you just get a problem to solve.

You control a small squad of green humanoids, directing them one by one across single-screen levels filled with hazards like spikes, pits, and moving platforms. Your main objective is to get at least one of them to the exit door, sacrificing the others if you must. The signature mechanics involve careful timing and pathfinding; you input a sequence of movement commands (up, down, left, right) for each character before hitting go and watching the plan succeed or fail catastrophically. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty comes from predicting how your commands will play out amidst the level's obstacles. It feels like a mix of careful strategy and chaotic slapstick when your plans go awry.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
