Play The Horde Online
You frantically build defenses before waves of Hordlings attack, desperately protecting your cows—because no cows means no gold for magic spells. The Grimthwacker sword feels ridiculous until you're swinging it wildly at little monsters storming your half-built walls.

I first played The Horde back in 1994 on MS-DOS, a game developed by Crystal Dynamics. It came out during a time when PC gaming was really branching out into different genres, and this one stood out for its odd mix of strategy and action. You don't see many games that try to blend base building with real-time combat in quite the same way.
You control a hero tasked with defending a village from endless waves of creatures. The main goal is to protect your livestock, especially the cows, because they generate the gold needed to buy spells and build defenses. Key mechanics include constructing walls and towers between attacks, using a sword for close combat, and casting spells to clear groups of enemies. The pacing is intense; you have brief moments to prepare before each onslaught, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It feels chaotic and frantic, but in a way that makes every successful defense incredibly satisfying.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
