Game Overview

I came across The IBM BASIC Quiz in a collection of MS-DOS Classic Games. It was developed by IBM, and it feels like a piece of software archaeology from the early 1980s. The game doesn't try to be flashy; it's a straightforward, text-based program designed to test your knowledge of a programming language that was once common on personal computers.

You don't control a character. Instead, you read a question and type in your answer, which is a line of BASIC code. The main objective is to answer correctly and progress through the quiz. The mechanics are simple: you interpret the problem, write the code, and hope the interpreter accepts it. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty comes from the strict syntax rules; a single misplaced comma or space can make a correct answer wrong. It feels like having a patient but very precise teacher looking over your shoulder.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
