Okay, so The King of Fighters '99 is that classic Neo Geo fighter where you pick a team of three and just go wild. The roster’s stacked with familiar faces—Iori’s still got those ridiculous flame moves, Kyo’s combos feel slick as ever, and there’s a bunch of new characters too. The Millennium Battle update tweaks some mechanics, so fights feel faster than ‘98 but not as chaotic as later entries.

First match in, you’ll notice the strikers—those assist characters who pop in for a quick attack. Took me a few rounds to figure out the timing, but nailing a striker combo into a super feels so good. And yeah, the AI’s brutal even on normal difficulty, especially if you’re rusty. Boss fight’s still a nightmare, but in that "one-more-try" way.

Graphics are pure pixel-art glory, explosions everywhere, and that crunchy Neo Geo sound design hits just right. If you’re into ‘90s fighters with depth but don’t want to grind frame data for hours, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t blame me when you lose to Krizalid for the tenth time.
