Game Overview

The Third Courier came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Accolade. It was a time when espionage games were finding their footing on PC, often relying on text and simple graphics to build tension. This one dropped you right into Cold War Berlin with a clear, no frills approach to the genre.

You play as an American agent tracking down stolen NATO documents. Gameplay involves moving screen by screen through the city, tailing suspects, and searching locations like trash cans or hotel rooms for clues and items. Key mechanics include using a bugging device to eavesdrop on conversations and managing a limited inventory of tools, like a pistol for emergencies. The pacing is deliberate, and mistakes can lead to quick failure, raising the stakes with each decision. It feels like piecing together a fragile, high risk puzzle where every interaction matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
