Play The Tick on Snes Online
Control The Tick, punch and jump through levels, take down thugs and ninjas, and clear screens to move on in this goofy beat 'em up from 1994.
I remember picking up The Tick on Super Nintendo back in 1994, a game developed by Software Creations. It was one of those licensed titles that came out during the SNES era, based on the absurd comic book and cartoon superhero. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a straightforward beat 'em up experience with a very specific, goofy charm.
You control the massive, nigh-invulnerable Tick, marching from left to right through city streets and enemy hideouts, pummeling an endless supply of thugs and ninjas. Your main goal is simply to clear each screen of enemies to proceed, occasionally switching to an isometric perspective for certain boss fights or more chaotic brawls. The core mechanics are simple punching and a super jump, but you can also pick up and throw enemies or objects you find in the environment. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can feel a bit cheap at times with enemy attacks coming from off-screen. It feels exactly like controlling a clumsy, overpowered cartoon character plowing through a paper-thin plot.
