Play Thexder Online

You're a clunky robot stomping through tight corridors until—bam—you transform into a jet to dodge bullets, barely managing your dwindling energy as turrets and drones swarm. That split-second decision to shift forms still feels incredible.

Game Overview

I first played Thexder on MS-DOS back in the late 80s, a game developed by Game Arts that stood out from the typical platformers and text adventures of the time. It wasn't trying to be cute or tell a grand story; it was a straightforward, challenging action game that demanded your full attention. You controlled a transforming robot, a concept that felt fresh and mechanically interesting compared to most other releases in that era.

You pilot Thexder, a robot that can switch between a slow, ground based mech with a powerful sword and a faster, flying jet form that fires weaker shots. Your goal is to navigate through a large, interconnected base, room by room, destroying a set of central cores to progress. The constant need to manage your energy, which depletes just by moving or taking damage, adds a layer of tension to every encounter. The difficulty is relentless, with enemy fire filling the screen and demanding quick form changes to survive. It feels like a tense, calculated struggle where every mistake costs you dearly.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
