Play Thunder Blade Online
Pilot an attack helicopter, switch perspectives, and blast through enemy targets while dodging obstacles in this intense arcade-style shooter.
Thunder Blade came out for the Sega Master System in 1988, developed and published by Sega. It was one of those games that tried to bring a more complex arcade style home, a time when developers were pushing the hardware to do more with scaling and layered action. It stood out for its attempt at a pseudo-3D perspective, something not many other SMS titles were doing with such ambition.
You pilot an attack helicopter through a series of missions, starting from a third-person behind-the-craft view before switching to a top-down perspective for the main combat zones. Your objective is to destroy all enemy targets on each screen, which include tanks, jets, and gun emplacements, while navigating through narrow canyon passes and under bridges. The controls handle differently between the two perspective shifts; the behind-view feels looser for navigation, while the top-down is more direct for aiming. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes sharply, especially when precise maneuvering is required to avoid crashing into obstacles. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble to keep your bearings while everything on screen is trying to kill you.
