Game Overview

I picked up Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the Nintendo DS back in 2004, a time when the dual screens and stylus felt genuinely new. Electronic Arts published it, and it was one of those early titles that really tried to use the hardware's quirks, fitting right into that experimental phase of the system's life. It wasn't trying to be a console experience shrunk down; it was its own thing, built for quick sessions and touch controls.

You control a custom golfer, working through tournaments and challenges to earn cash and better gear. The main goal is to climb the ranks and win events, but the real draw is the swing mechanic. You use the stylus to make your shot, dragging it down and then up on the touch screen to mimic a real golf swing; the speed and straightness of your stroke directly affect power and accuracy. You also manually adjust for wind and lie using the D-pad before each shot. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, demanding focus on every hole, and the difficulty comes from mastering that stylus motion under pressure. It feels surprisingly tactile and involved for a handheld sports game.
