Game Overview

Tom Clancy's EndWar on the Nintendo DS came out in 2008 from Ubisoft, a time when the handheld was full of ambitious, if sometimes compromised, console adaptations. It tried to bring a large-scale, modern warfare RTS to a system better known for touch controls in puzzle games and RPGs.

You command a small army of futuristic units, from riflemen and tanks to gunships, with the main goal being to capture and hold key points on a battlefield map. The signature mechanics are all built around the stylus; you draw paths for your units to move and tap directly on enemies to attack. You also use the microphone to issue voice commands for common orders, like telling a squad to attack or fall back. The pacing is frantic, as you're constantly managing multiple fronts and reacting to enemy pushes. It feels like a genuine, if sometimes clumsy, attempt to translate the chaos of command onto a tiny screen.
