I picked up Tom Clancy's EndWar for the Nintendo DS back in 2008, a Ubisoft Shanghai release that tried something ambitious on the handheld. You command a small force of futuristic military units, like tanks and infantry, from a top down perspective. The main objective is to capture key points on the map and eliminate the enemy commander. Your primary tool is the microphone; you issue orders by speaking preset commands like "Unit 1, attack hostile 3." The touch screen is used for selecting units and navigating the map, but the voice control is the star, for better or worse. The pacing is frantic, as misheard commands can send your squads into an ambush or leave them idle under fire. It feels like a tense, slightly chaotic radio operation where every second and every clearly spoken word counts.
