Creep through vents and shadows with Sam Fisher on PSP—some new missions, some flashbacks, all the tense stealth action you’d expect, just pocket-sized. The controls feel weird at first, but you’ll be silently dropping guards before long.

Game Overview

If you’ve ever wanted to sneak around in the shadows with Sam Fisher on the go, Splinter Cell: Essentials for PSP is basically that. It’s a weird little hybrid—part sequel to Double Agent, part flashback to Fisher’s SEAL days, with some entirely new missions thrown in (like a jungle op in ‘92 Colombia). There’s even a few unlockable bonus levels if you’re into completionist stuff.

The stealth gameplay’s still solid—crouch-walking through vents, sticking to darkness, and quietly taking down guards feels just as tense as ever. The controls take some getting used to (you pan the camera by holding O, which feels odd at first), but once it clicks, it works surprisingly well for a handheld. And yeah, all the gadgets are here: night vision, thermal goggles, lockpicks—the usual spy toolkit.

What’s new? There’s a spy-vs-spy Ad-Hoc deathmatch mode, which is chaotic fun if you can find someone else with a PSP. Mostly though, it’s just satisfying to have a decent Splinter Cell experience in your pocket, even if some missions feel like a condensed version of the console games. Not perfect, but way better than it had any right to be on PSP.
