Tom & Jerry - The Ultimate Game of Cat and Mouse! came out for the NES in 1992, published by Hi Tech Expressions. It was one of those many licensed games from the era, trying to capture the spirit of the cartoon on the 8-bit hardware. You knew what you were getting into just by looking at the box art.

You play as Jerry, and the goal is to guide him through a multi-screen house to collect pieces of cheese and eventually a key to exit the level. Tom is always lurking, and you have to avoid him while also dealing with his traps, like mousetraps and sudden ambushes from drawers or cabinets. The game is split into distinct rooms you move between, and the pacing is frantic because Tom is persistent. It feels like a constant, clumsy scramble where every small victory is hard-won.
