I picked up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was one of those handheld ports that tried to bring a console experience to the small screen, and for its time, it did a surprisingly solid job. The GBA library had plenty of platformers and RPGs, but having a decent skateboarding game in your pocket felt like a small luxury.
You control a pro skater like Tony Hawk or Bam Margera, skating through levels to complete objectives like high score challenges, collecting the letters S-K-A-T-E, and finding hidden tapes. The core mechanics are pulling off tricks like ollies, grinds, and manuals to build your combo meter; landing tricks smoothly keeps your multiplier going. The isometric view takes some getting used to, and the controls are a bit cramped on the GBA, but once you adjust, chaining moves together feels genuinely satisfying. It captures that addictive, just-one-more-try rhythm of the console versions in a portable form.
