Total Eclipse came out in 1989 from Spotlight Software, one of those MS-DOS games that felt ambitious for its time. It was a first-person adventure set in a pyramid, and it leaned into the hardware limitations to create a moody, claustrophobic atmosphere. You weren't just running and gunning; it was more about observation and careful movement, which was pretty common for exploratory games in that era.
You control an explorer navigating a dark, trap-filled pyramid, and your main goal is to find four pieces of a crystal to escape. The game plays out screen by screen, with each new area presenting switches to flip, hidden passages to uncover, and creatures to avoid. You have a limited water supply that acts as a timer, adding constant pressure to your decisions. It's a slow, deliberate game where one wrong move can mean starting over, and that tension makes every small success feel earned.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
