Tracon II came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, a title developed by Software 2000 that put you in the hot seat of an air traffic controller. It was a time when simulation games were exploring mundane but surprisingly tense professions, and this one captured the specific stress of managing crowded airspace without any glamour.
You control the entire radar screen, directing commercial jets to their assigned runways while avoiding mid-air collisions. The main objective is to guide each aircraft safely to its landing path, sequencing them efficiently as they enter your airspace. Signature mechanics include clicking to assign altitudes and headings, managing speed to create safe separation, and dealing with unpredictable emergencies like sudden weather changes. The pacing is relentless, with the difficulty spiking sharply as more planes flood the screen; one misjudged turn can lead to a chain reaction of disasters. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
