Game Overview
True Crime: New York City on GameCube is basically GTA but with a badge. You play as Marcus Reed, a cop with a temper and a knack for getting into fistfights in back alleys. The city feels alive—maybe a little too alive when you’re trying to chase some lowlife through Times Square and pedestrians keep getting in the way.
The combat’s clunky but satisfying once you get the hang of it. One minute you’re interrogating a suspect (bad cop mode always works better), the next you’re in a slow-motion shootout behind a hot dog stand. And yeah, the driving physics are… questionable. But there’s something weirdly fun about plowing through traffic in a stolen taxi while your lieutenant yells at you over the radio.
It’s not perfect, but if you miss that mid-2000s era of janky open-world games with attitude, this one’s got plenty to love. Just don’t expect the moral choices to be all that deep.
