Turbo Outrun hit MS-DOS in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a port of Sega's arcade racer. You got the core experience, but with the hardware limitations and control quirks typical of the era.

You control a driver in a red sports car, racing from one end of the United States to the other against a strict time limit. The key mechanics are straightforward: you steer to avoid traffic, use a limited supply of turbo boosts for sudden bursts of speed, and must periodically refuel at gas stations to avoid running out. The pace is relentless, and the other cars are unforgiving obstacles. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
