Game Overview
Twinkle Star Sprites is this weird, wonderful mashup of a bullet-hell shooter and a competitive puzzle game—like if someone crossed Puyo Puyo with a manic arcade shooter. You play as Ran, a witch apprentice hunting for a wish-granting star, except half the cast wants it too, so naturally, you settle things with screen-filling chaos.
Here’s the twist: you and your opponent (or the AI) each have your own vertical playfield. Blasting enemies sends attacks over to the other side, and chaining kills together ramps up the pressure—suddenly they’re dodging fireballs, screen-clogging summons, or their own personal boss monster. Every character has a different playstyle, too—some feel methodical, others just spam nonsense and pray. The first time you accidentally combo into a giant laser while your friend screams, you’ll get it.
There’s a story mode, arcade runs, and of course, the real meat is the versus mode. Just don’t blame me when your Saturn controller ends up across the room.
