Drive a purple car, jump over traffic, collect flags, and manage fuel while racing against the clock in this fast-paced arcade classic from 1983.
Up n Down was one of those early MS-DOS games from 1983, originally a SEGA arcade port. It came out when simple, fast action games were the norm, and it fit right in with its straightforward premise and colorful, blocky graphics. You controlled a little purple car, and the goal was clear from the start: drive, jump, and survive.
You pilot a small buggy through a vertically scrolling landscape filled with other cars and obstacles. The main objective is to collect ten flags scattered across the stages before the timer runs out. The key mechanics involve jumping over oncoming traffic to squash them, navigating roads that tilt and change elevation abruptly, and managing your limited fuel supply by grabbing gas cans. The pace is relentless, and the physics are unforgiving; a mistimed jump or a bad landing often sends you tumbling off the edge. It feels chaotic and demanding, a constant test of reflexes and route memory.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
