Pilot the Manta, dodge enemy fire, bomb dreadnoughts, and master tight controls in this fast-paced side-scrolling shooter from 1986.
Uridium came out in 1986 for MS-DOS, developed by Andrew Braybrook and published through the Hewson Consultants label. It was one of those games that felt like a step forward for side-scrolling shooters on the PC, demanding quick reflexes and a sharp eye in an era when many games were still figuring out how to handle fast action smoothly.
You pilot a sleek fighter craft, the Manta, tasked with destroying a series of massive enemy dreadnoughts. Each ship is a long, horizontally scrolling level filled with turrets, mines, and enemy fighters. The core loop involves dodging relentless fire while skimming low over the dreadnought's surface, then quickly landing on specific pads to plant bombs before a timer runs out and the whole section detonates. The pace is frantic, the difficulty steep, and survival depends on memorizing attack patterns and mastering the Manta's tight, responsive controls. It feels like a high-speed game of cat and mouse where every successful bombing run is a hard-won victory.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
