Venture came out for the Atari 2600 in 1982, published by Atari themselves. It was one of those games that felt a little different from the usual arcade ports or space shooters of the time. You explored a series of single screen dungeons, each with its own layout and dangers, which gave it a methodical, almost puzzle like feel compared to the frantic action common on the system.

You control a small, arrow shaped character named Winky, moving from room to room to collect treasure while avoiding monsters and environmental hazards. The main goal is simple: grab all the treasure in a dungeon and reach the exit before you're caught or run out of lives. Key mechanics include dodging enemies that bounce unpredictably around the screen, navigating narrow passages that sometimes shift or close in on you, and being careful not to touch the remains of defeated monsters, which can still kill you. The pacing is tense; you have to be quick but deliberate, since rushing usually ends badly. It feels like a careful, nervous scavenger hunt where every move counts.
