Game Overview

Ever wanted to play sumo wrestling if it was dreamed up by someone who ate too much candy before bed? Wakataka Oozumou on SNES is that exact vibe—a ridiculous, bouncy take on the sport where wrestlers flop around like inflatable tube men at a car dealership. You pick one of these absurdly proportioned brothers (my favorite’s the guy who looks like he’s made of balloons) and just start shoving.

The first match feels like someone turned gravity down to 70%—your wrestler stumbles, flails, and occasionally pulls off a move that sends the other guy flying halfway across the screen. There’s something deeply satisfying about the way the physics go completely off the rails when you both charge at the same time. It’s less “refined martial art” and more “two drunk guys trying to push each other into a pool.”

If you’ve got a friend around, it gets even better. The controls are simple enough that anyone can mash buttons and have a good time, but there’s just enough strategy in timing your shoves to keep it interesting. I still remember the first time my buddy got me with a last-second dodge that made me yeet myself right out of the ring. Pure SNES chaos at its finest.
