Play Warlock (Beta) Online

You blast skeletons with fireballs until your magic runs out, then awkwardly whack them with a staff—until you suddenly turn into a panther mid-fight. That dragon boss is pure panic as you dodge flames while fumbling your spells.

Game Overview

Warlock (Beta) on the Genesis is one of those weird little action games that somehow sticks with you. You start off blasting skeletons with fireballs, which feels great—until you realize your magic meter drains fast and suddenly you're whacking enemies with a staff like some underpowered wizard bouncer. The shape-shifting mechanic is cool when it works (turning into a panther mid-combo never gets old), but good luck figuring out the timing at first.

The levels have this hazy, almost dreamlike quality to them, like someone smeared Vaseline on a medieval fantasy painting. That dragon boss fight? Absolute chaos in the best way—you'll be jumping over flame breath while desperately trying to land your one decent spell. The music's all ominous chanting and synth drums, perfect for a game where you're never quite as powerful as you want to be.

It's janky, sure, but there's something about the way it throws magic systems and mythology together that makes it worth revisiting. Just don't expect it to hold your hand.
