Waterworld came out on the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games from the era, and it stood out for trying to capture the film's unique setting on the 16-bit hardware. You play as the Mariner, navigating a planet almost entirely covered by water, searching for the mythical Dryland.

You control the Mariner from an isometric perspective, piloting a trimaran across the ocean. The main goal is to explore screen by screen, fighting off raiders called Smokers, and gathering clues about Dryland's location. Signature mechanics include diving underwater to avoid enemy fire or find hidden items, and using a variety of weapons like a crossbow and grenades.
