Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars was one of those SNES hockey games that actually made you feel like you were flipping through a mid-90s hockey card collection. Yeah, you got Gretzky, but also Lemieux, Lindros, Messier—basically every big name from that era, all 600 of them. Even the teams felt legit, with all 26 NHL squads plus six international ones if you wanted to mix it up.
The gameplay? Classic arcade hockey, but with options. You could go full simulation with penalties and stats tracking (thanks to battery backup—no losing your season progress), or switch to arcade mode if you just wanted to slam bodies and score without worrying about offsides. The "Just Play" button was my lazy-day favorite—one press and boom, you're in a random matchup. Two-player mode turned into some seriously heated couch rivalries, too.
It wasn’t the flashiest hockey game out there, but for a kid with a SNES and a love for early-90s hockey stars, this was basically a time capsule.
