WCW Mayhem came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, published by Electronic Arts. It was one of the few wrestling games on the handheld, arriving during a time when portable sports titles were often simplified versions of their console counterparts. The game featured a roster of WCW stars, though the small screen and limited hardware meant some compromises in presentation.
You control a wrestler and move through various arenas and backstage areas, fighting opponents in one-on-one matches or battle royals. The main goal is to win matches, climb the rankings, and eventually claim the championship in career mode. Signature mechanics include grappling and striking with basic button combinations, as well as using environmental objects like chairs when the ref isn't looking. The pacing is deliberate, with matches sometimes feeling slow due to the hardware limitations, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to bring wrestling action to your pocket.
