Play Werewolf: The Last Warrior Online
Transform into a werewolf, slash through mutants and machines, defeat bosses, and survive five chaotic stages in this NES side-scroller from 1990.
Werewolf: The Last Warrior came out in 1990 for the NES, published by Data East. It was one of those side-scrolling action games that felt familiar at the time, but it had a specific, strange charm. You don't see many games where the main character is a werewolf, especially not on the NES.
You control a man who can transform into a werewolf to fight through five stages of mutants and machines. The goal is to survive each linear, screen-by-screen area, defeat the boss, and move on. Your human form is weak and mostly useless, so you rely on building a meter to trigger your werewolf transformation; once changed, you shred enemies with claws and even unlock a temporary super-werewolf mode that lets you tear through everything. The game is fast and fairly difficult, with some vertical climbing sections to break up the running and slashing. It feels chaotic and a little janky, but there's a real thrill in tearing through enemies once that transformation kicks in.
