Play Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on GBC Online

Nailing early questions feels easy until you’re sweating over obscure trivia, desperately using clunky lifelines while the cash ladder taunts you. That GBC cartridge somehow makes guessing wombat facts feel high-stakes.

Game Overview

I picked up Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on Game Boy Color back in 2000, a port of the TV show developed by Tiertex Design Studios. It was a time when licensed games were everywhere, and this one fit right in, offering a pocket-sized version of the quiz frenzy without any of the flashy graphics you'd see on home consoles.

You play as a contestant answering multiple-choice questions to climb the cash ladder. The main goal is to correctly answer fifteen questions in a row to win the top prize. The signature mechanics are the three lifelines: you can use 50:50 to eliminate two wrong answers, Phone a Friend for a hint, or Ask the Audience to see a poll of what they think is correct. The pacing is deliberate, forcing you to think under a soft time pressure, and the difficulty spikes noticeably around the higher value questions. It feels surprisingly tense for a handheld game, turning a quiet bus ride into a miniature high-pressure studio.
