Pilot a WWII fighter bomber, take off from an aircraft carrier, bomb enemy targets, engage in dogfights, and land back safely in Wings of Fury on MS-DOS.
Wings of Fury, released in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, was developed by Steve Waldo. It arrived during a period when side-scrolling action games were common, but its specific focus on carrier-based aviation gave it a distinct feel among the flight sims and arcade shooters of the time.
You pilot a World War II style fighter bomber, tasked with destroying enemy installations on a series of Pacific islands. The core loop involves taking off from an aircraft carrier, flying over enemy territory to drop bombs on ground targets, and engaging enemy fighters in dogfights. Two key mechanics define the experience: the need to manually line up bombing runs while managing your altitude and speed, and the tense process of returning to your carrier, which requires a careful, controlled landing approach. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty comes from both enemy resistance and the precision required for successful takeoffs and landings. It feels like a tight, demanding arcade challenge where every successful mission brings a genuine sense of accomplishment.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
