Game Overview
Wings of Fury on Game Boy Color puts you in the cockpit of an F6F Hellcat, buzzing over Pacific islands during WWII. You’ll dive-bomb bunkers with rockets, strafe trucks with machine guns (they toned down the violence from the original—no shooting soldiers here), and even take on enemy fighters in tight dogfights. The first time I tried landing back on the carrier to refuel, I nearly crashed into the deck—it’s trickier than it looks.
Between missions, you’ve got to protect your carrier from attacks, which adds this nice layer of tension. The GBC version ditched torpedo planes and that little first-person window, but they threw in barrel rolls and a post-mission ammo report. Turns out being stingy with bullets earns you bonus points, so I kept trying to beat my own high score by making every shot count.
It’s got that classic arcade feel—simple to pick up, but those later islands get brutal if you don’t manage your fuel and ammo carefully.
