Game Overview

Winning Eleven DS is basically the portable version of Pro Evolution Soccer—just with tiny sprites and touchscreen controls that somehow work better than you'd expect. At first, I thought the DS wouldn’t handle soccer well, but after a few matches, the controls click. You’ve got your basic passes, through balls, and even a little stylus trickery for free kicks.

The graphics are obviously scaled down, but the gameplay still feels sharp—way less floaty than some other handheld soccer games. And yeah, it’s all in Japanese, but menus are easy enough to guess if you’ve played any PES before. Scoring a last-minute goal on the bus never gets old.

If you’re looking for a solid soccer fix on the DS, this one’s surprisingly good.
