Winter Gold came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed by Funcom. It was one of those late-era SNES titles that tried to push the hardware with polygonal graphics, arriving at a time when many players were already looking toward newer consoles.

You control an athlete competing in six different winter events, including ski jumping, halfpipe, and aerials. The main objective is to perform tricks and maneuvers to earn high scores from the judges, all while trying to maintain control and avoid wiping out. Signature mechanics include building up speed for takeoff, timing button presses to initiate and hold spins or flips in the air, and attempting to land smoothly. The pacing is fast and the physics are unforgiving; a mistimed input sends your character tumbling comically. It feels like a constant, chaotic battle between your intentions and the game's slippery interpretation of momentum.
