Game Overview

Wiz is one of those old-school arcade gems that feels simple at first but gets surprisingly deep. You play as a wizard—robe, pointy hat, the whole deal—flinging eight different types of magic across three wild realms: underground caves, a land full of monsters, and finally the sky where a dragon’s waiting to wreck you.

The magic system’s the real star here. Each spell behaves differently—some shoot straight, others arc or bounce—and figuring out which one works best against certain enemies is half the fun. The pixel art’s got that classic arcade charm, and the music? Pure 80s synth goodness.

This Arcade Archives version lets you tweak difficulty, mess with display settings to mimic an old CRT monitor, and even compete for global high scores. Oh, and if you’ve got a buddy around, you can team up in local co-op. Just don’t blame me when you both get roasted by that dragon.

It’s a solid port of a game that still holds up if you’re into retro action with a bit of strategy. The dragon fight alone is worth the price of admission.
