Game Overview

So this is the SNES version of the first three Wizardry games bundled together—classic dungeon crawlers with a brutal reputation. You start by rolling up a party (good luck balancing fighters, mages, and thieves without getting wiped in the first hallway), then dive into Llylgamyn’s maze-like dungeons. The pixelated first-person view hasn’t aged too badly, and the automap is a lifesaver when you’re three floors deep and realize you have no idea how to get back.

Don’t expect hand-holding. Traps, ambushes, and sudden party wipes happen constantly, and half the strategy is knowing when to retreat before your cleric runs out of resurrection spells. The updated SNES sprites and smoother menus help a little, but it’s still the same punishing grind—just prettier. If you’ve got the patience for old-school RPG pain, this trilogy’s worth the frustration.
