Game Overview

Wizardry I-II-III on SNES bundles the first three dungeon-crawling classics into one package, with some nice upgrades. You still start by rolling up a party of adventurers—elves make decent mages, humans are all-rounders, and dwarves can take a beating. The first hour is mostly fumbling through dark corridors, getting ambushed by floating eyeballs, and praying you find the stairs back to town before your cleric runs out of healing spells.

The remake gives you the option to play with textured dungeon walls (which honestly look pretty decent for SNES) or switch back to the old-school wireframe look if you're feeling nostalgic. There's even an automap now, which is a lifesaver when you're three floors deep and completely lost. Best part? Your party carries over between all three games, so that level 10 samurai you painstakingly trained in the first scenario can finally flex in the sequels.

It never got an official English release, but the Japanese version has full English text hidden in the options. Just don't expect the translation to hold your hand—this is pure, unforgiving '80s RPG design with a fresh coat of paint.
